Elisha Moyo

Board Chairman

Elisha Moyo is the Board Chairman of First Mutual Properties, non-executive director of First Mutual Holdings Limited and TristarInsurance Company Limited. Additionally, he sits on several other boards, including Afrosoft Holdings Limited, having previously served on the boards of Zimnat Life Assurance Company Limited and Sable Chemical Industries (Private) Limited. He has served as the General Counsel for TA Holdings, and as Managing Director of Zimnat Lion Insurance Company Limited for a period of 5 years. He is a past President of the Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe and a past Chairman of the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe. Prior to that, Mr. Moyo performed company secretarial roles for Southampton Assurance Company and its subsidiaries and Intermarket Holdings Limited.

Elisha is a lawyer by profession and currently practices law in the Law firm Moyo and Partners Legal Practitioners which he founded in October 2011. His specialty is corporate law.

He is a current PhD student in Business Administration and he holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe, a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Bachelor of Law Honours Degree from the same institution.

William Marere

Group Finance Director

William Marere is the Group Finance Director of First Mutual Holdings Limited. Prior to this appointment, William was Chief Financial Officer – Corporate Finance at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe where he was responsible for corporate and project finance and investor relations.

He has more than 20 years’ working experience in the field of finance. William served his Articles of Clerkship with Ernst & Young and upon completion he worked for the companies in the financial services, mining and furniture including Stanbic Bank, TN Financial Services and Zimbabwe Alloys Limited where he gained proficiency and expertise in finance and administration, corporate and project finance, advisory services and treasury related products. He has also participated in major corporate finance mandates for leading listed entities.

William holds an Honours Bachelor of Accounting Science Degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and is a Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe).

Douglas Hoto

Non-Executive Director

Douglas Hoto is an accomplished business leader and currently holds the reins at First Mutual Holdings Limited as Group Chief Executive Officer.  Douglas was instrumental in setting up First Mutual Reinsurance Company (FMRE Property & Casualty), TristarInsurance Company and African Actuarial Consultants from a Division of First Mutual Life Assurance Society. His career has seen him at the helm of Altfin Holdings, First Mutual Limited and he has held various senior positions at Old Mutual South Africa as well as Old Mutual Zimbabwe.

In addition to his business achievements, Douglas is involved in community transformation initiatives focusing on education. He works closely with national development organizations and is the past chairman for Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTATS). He serves on a number of boards and is the immediate past chairman of the Actuarial Society of Zimbabwe.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Mathematics (UZ), is a qualified Actuary with more than 22 years’ experience. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries of the United Kingdom 1999 (FIFA), and is also a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA).

Dr Sasha Jogi

Board Member

Dr Sasha Jogi is a Director at Arup Zimbabwe (Private) Limited. He is well qualified and has extensive experience in Development Planning with particular reference to Environmental, Regional and Urban Planning in both the public and private sectors in Zimbabwe.

In the public sector as Provincial Planning Officer, Mashonaland (East, West and Central) he has been involved in the conceptualisation, preparation and implementation of Government Policy as it related to development with special reference to the

  • National Urban Settlement Hierarchy
  • Provincial and District Planning and the
  • design of Growth Points, Rural Service and Business Centres.

In the private sector he has spearheaded the preparation of the National Housing Policy as well as prepared and approved Master and Local Plans in both the rural and urban areas. He has also been involved in Strategic Planning both at a company and institutional level e.g. Marondera Municipality, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society As President of the Zimbabwe Institute of Regional and Urban Planners he has initiated the involvement of Professional Development Institutions (architects, engineers, realtors etc) in the preparation of a National Planning and Development Agenda as well as direct involvement in the delivery of housing in Harare.

Dr Sasha is a member of several professional associations and also sits in committees.

Ruth B Ncube

Board Member

Ruth is the Managing Director for First Mutual Life Assurance Company.

Ruth joined the First Mutual group in 2002 as its Corporate Affairs Executive responsible for marketing and communication strategy. In 2009, Ruth was seconded to First Mutual Life to craft and implement turnaround strategies for the company and was subsequently elevated to the Managing Director position in September 2009.

With over 20 years leadership experience in various economic sectors notably retail, hospitality, banking and insurance, Ruth has overseen the continued growth of First Mutual Life Assurance Company post dollarization. She has particularly transformed the company’s value offering having overseen the introduction of new products and strategic partnerships that have changed the insurance landscape in Zimbabwe.

In recognition of her contribution to the regional and local insurance sector, Ruth was appointed to the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) – Micro Insurance Committee in 2013. An avid marketer and turnaround specialist, Ruth is the past president of the Marketers Association Zimbabwe and is also the current Chairperson of the Life Offices Association (LOA) , ZITF Company (Private) Limited as well as the chair of the Insurance Institute Zimbabwe (IIZ) – Marketing and PR committee.

In affirmation of Ruth’s business acumen and achievements, the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) accorded her the Businesswoman of the Year Award for the year 2013.

She holds an MBA degree with Nottingham Trent University, UK. A graduate with the Institute of Marketing Management (RSA), a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and holds several diplomas in sales and marketing United Kingdom.

Christopher Kudakwashe Manyowa

Board Member

Christopher Kudakwashe Manyowa is the Managing Director of First Mutual Properties. He is responsible for charting the strategic direction of the business ensuring value preservation and growth. Chris is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years’ experience in town planning, property management, formulation and management of projects, valuations, property investment analysis including acquisitions and disposal of properties. He is also an active member of the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Institute of Regional & Urban Planners.

Chris started his working career as a Town Planner in the Public Service and Municipal governments, then later qualified as a Registered Estate Agent and Property Valuer. He then left employment Public service employment to join National Real Estate. He is the former Head of Property Development for Old Mutual Property where he served for seven and half years before joining Pearl Properties as General Manager Property Services, a position he held for 5 years before his appointment as Managing Director.

Chris holds a BSc Rural & Urban Planning Honours Degree as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), both from the University of Zimbabwe.

Oyster Real Estate Profile

Chris is the Principal Registered Estate Agent for Oyster Real Estate, with the overall responsibility of managing client portfolio and the trust account. Chris is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years’ experience in property management, formulation and management of projects, valuations, property investment analysis including acquisitions and disposal of properties. Chris is a Registered Estate Agent and Property Valuer and an active member of the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Institute of Regional & Urban Planners.

Chris holds a BSc Rural & Urban Planning Honours Degree as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), both from the University of Zimbabwe.

Eve Mkondo

Board Member

Eve Mkondo is the Chief Financial Officer of African Consolidated Resources plc. with effect from December 28 2012. She is a Chartered Accountant who has held the positions of Group Finance Director and or Group Commercial Director for a Zimbabwean quoted company. She joined the Vast Resources plc in November as Chief Executive Officer of the Zimbabwe holding company and for the operations in Zimbabwe and also as Chief Financial Officer for the whole Group.
